Trade in your used baby gear

Written by: P&N

Babies'R'Us and Toy'R'Us stores are once again hosting The Great Trade-In, offering families and childcare providers an incentive to make nurseries safer. Since its inception over two years ago, this national safety program has increased awareness that deterioration and changing safety requirements may outdate old cribs, bouncers, or car seats more quickly than most think.

Increased federal safety regulations, including a ban of drop-side cribs and stricter testing of baby gear, require compliancy from childcare facilities to keep your little one protected. But what about safety standards in the home? Although hand-me-downs or buying secondhand answer financial questions for some families, experts recommend most of the bigger ticket items be bought new.

From January 27 (that's tomorrow!) through February 20, parents can trade in used items at Babies'R'Us and Toys'R'Us, including baby furniture, strollers and car seats, to receive 25 percent off specified new items purchased in-store on the same day. There’s no limit on the number of items that can be turned in, so load up the minivan! Coupons must be applied to items in the appropriate product categories and manufactured by one of the participating top baby goods manufacturers.

After updating the baby’s room, head over to Toys'R'Us’s safety website (toysrus.com/safety) to check out helpful resources including safety regulations, recall information and precautionary tips, all in one convenient spot. Sign up for the site’s email list and receive notifications of current recalls and new information.

Be sure to take advantage of this month-long Babies'R'Us and Toys'R'Us event. This event will come around again, but why wait?
