International Women's Day Centenary 1911-2011

Written by: P&N

In 1911, International Women's Day was honored for the first time in Austria, Denmark, Germany and Switzerland.

Created in response to the increasing inequality and oppression, International Women's Day has continued to grow, continuing the efforts of women from days past in their quest for awareness and equality. Since its inception, women have seen much progress in the workforce and other arenas.

Annually, on March 8, events are held all over the world, (the majority of which occur in the UK) to celebrate women and honor their achievements. Here are list of events occurring in 2011 both in the USAand in Canada.

And to echo the sentiments of the official website:”Make a difference, think globally and act locally. Make every day International Women's Day. Do your bit to ensure that the future for girls is bright, equal, safe and rewarding.”
