Holy heatwave! We know you’re feeling the heat this summer, and you can be sure your little one’s feeling it too. But summer babes get their own perks like wearing that cool first pair of baby shades or wiggling toes in sand and the wading pool.
It’s National Ice Cream Month! And it couldn’t have come sooner. Ice cream is a delicious way for mommies to beat the heat, but it leaves babies in the cold (pediatricians recommend cow’s milk be introduced after 12 months). For an easy DIY cooldown, try this recipe for one ingredient ice cream from thekitchn.com. One ingredient? That’s right, a couple of bananas is enough to create this nondairy, sugar-free frozen treat for you and baby.
Here are the Cliff’s Notes for this too-easy-to-be-true recipe:
• Peel your bananas.
• Cut them into small pieces.
• Freeze for 1-2 hours on a plate.
• Blend, blend, blend—scraping down the bowl when they stick.
• Enjoy the magic moment when they turn into ice cream!
In other words—peel, cut, freeze, blend and yum!
For an added bonus, whip in a tablespoon of blueberries or some wheat germ for extra nutrition. You can even “spike” mommy’s serving with some Kahlua Nutella.
Since we’re already in the kitchen, here are other seasonal “freezer fruits” you and your tot might enjoy this summer:

Whatever you choose, we have no doubt you and your little one will be chilling out no matter how high the mercury rises.
